From a classroom project to a competitive robotics team
Founded in 2022 at Amplus Academy's Durango Campus in Las Vegas, Nevada, the Archerbots started as a simple robotics class. What began as a curiosity-driven experiment quickly evolved into a passionate team of student engineers.
Despite limited resources and funding challenges, we've consistently built competitive robots and made our mark in the FIRST Tech Challenge (FTC) community. Our journey reflects the resilience and determination of our student members.
Competing in the 2025-2026 "Decode" season, we've achieved our most competitive robot yet, thanks to a significant influx of new materials and resources. However, our potential remains untapped due to travel limitations that prevented us from advancing further in competition.
Internally, we call ourselves "Murphy's Law" - a nod to our experience that anything that can go wrong, will go wrong. But we've learned to embrace these challenges as opportunities for growth. Every obstacle we overcome makes us stronger engineers and better teammates.
The talented individuals behind our success
Engineering excellence in the Decode season
Custom autonomous routines and vision processing for precise object detection and manipulation
Modular design with optimized gear ratios for maximum efficiency and reliability
High-torque motors and advanced control systems for superior speed and control
For the 2025-2026 Decode season, our team designed a robot focused on versatility and precision. With a custom intake mechanism for handling organic samples and a sophisticated scoring system, our robot demonstrates our commitment to both technical excellence and strategic gameplay.
The design philosophy centered on modularity, allowing for quick adjustments between matches. Our programming team implemented advanced sensor fusion for autonomous navigation, while our build team created a robust chassis capable of handling the demanding game elements.
Documenting our journey and engineering process
An Engineering Portfolio is a comprehensive document that tells the story of our team's season, showcasing our engineering process, design decisions, and problem-solving approaches. It's a critical component of FTC judging, demonstrating how we think, plan, and execute our robot development.
The portfolio includes detailed sections on our engineering methodology, CAD designs, mathematical calculations, design iterations, and reflections on our successes and challenges. Judges use this document to evaluate our technical skills, creativity, and engineering mindset.
Our 2025-2026 season portfolio documents our journey through the "Decode" challenge. It features our initial brainstorming sessions, CAD models of our robot iterations, technical calculations for our mechanisms, and our strategic approach to game elements.
The portfolio highlights our design process, our autonomous routines, and our team's reflections on competition performance and areas for improvement. This document was instrumental in our judging presentations and helped showcase our technical capabilities to judges at regional competitions.
Engaging our community with creativity and passion
One of our proudest achievements extends beyond the competition field. For our school's homecoming dance, we designed and built a full-scale alligator costume from scratch. This wasn't just a costume - it was a functioning prop with articulated jaws that brought our school to life.
The alligator made appearances at school assemblies and community events, showcasing our team's creativity and engineering skills to a broader audience. The project required skills in mechanical engineering, electronics, and performance - demonstrating that robotics is about more than just building competition robots.
This project perfectly embodies our team spirit and commitment to making STEM exciting and accessible to everyone in our community.
Organizing and participating in various fundraising events to support our robotics program
Hosting workshops for students to introduce them to robotics and engineering
Showcasing our robots at community events to inspire the next generation
Help us reach our full potential with your sponsorship
Despite our proven competitive results and community impact, limited funding has prevented us from reaching our full potential. In the 2025-2026 season, we built our most competitive robot yet but were unable to advance further in competition due to travel costs.
